Join the ABRF Core Administrators' Network to review the results of the Focus Group held at the 2025 ABRF Annual Meeting that explored how ABRF members are planning to respond to proposed changes in federal research funding.  This discussion included nearly 250 attendees working in small groups to share perspectives on these issues:

    1. Institutional Policies – How to push for them
    2. Recruitment policies around limiting instruments, polices about reviewing duplication of resources and services across facilities, laboratories, etc.
    3. Communication
    4. Reorganization of Services, Facilities,
    5. External Revenue and Alternative Revenue Sources
    6. Value Proposition and ROI
    7. Multi Institutional Collaborations
    8. Research Mission/Institutional Strategic Goals Alignment

Groups were asked to consider these questions within each topic:

    1. What do you think are some good recommendations to enhance [topic # selected for the table].
      1. Why do you think some of these ideas will or will not work for your Institution/organization?
    2. What has been your experience on trying to enhance [topic # selected for the table].
      1. Under the current research climate can you share your outlook on how these changes may facilitate positive and negative impressions.
    3. Are there any key factors that need to be in place for these changes to occur within your organization? Have you used any specific management frameworks in the past to help with this?
    4. How will you manage the human element around these changes? How have these changes impacted you as a leader and as an individual?

This session will review the results of the Focus Group discussions, along with other strategies members are planning to implement in response to the potentially dramatic reductions in research funding.

We look forward to seeing you for this timely session.  Contact us if you have other suggestions or questions.
