  • 1.  ABRF DEIB Council Call for New Members and 2024 DEIB Award Nominations

    Posted 08-22-2023 15:40

The ABRF DEIB Council needs you! We need you to submit nominations for the 2024 DEIB Award and we always need new Council members. Submit your nominations and/or interest in joining the DEIB Council to ABRF Executive Director Ken Schoppmann today. See below for more details about Award nominations and what it means to be a Council member.

Also, you may have noticed we changed our name! We are now the ABRF Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Council. By adding belonging to our name, we wish to communicate that we strive to foster a culture where all ABRF members feel accepted and valued. To learn more about what each of the words in DEIB means, visit https://rb.gy/3ja9k.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

Interested in joining the DEIB Council? As a DEIB Council member, you will be working to develop plans and proposals to enhance diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging within ABRF, responding to requests for feedback from the ABRF Executive Board, and more. We generally meet virtually for one hour every other week and are striving toward three-year terms. Check out https://www.abrf.org/abrf-diversity-equity-and-inclusion-dei-council for more information.

Have a nomination for the 2024 DEIB Award? The ABRF DEI Council will accept nominations of a person, group, or organization whose efforts have significantly contributed to a more diverse and inclusive scientific community through one or more of the following avenues:

    • Demonstrated commitment to support scientists from historically excluded, underserved, and minoritized communities
    • Recruitment, mentoring, and retention of a diverse scientific workforce
    • Expanding opportunities for those underrepresented in science
    • Outreach and/or advocacy efforts to enact change in support of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice

The committee will give particular consideration to nominees whose efforts directly impact the ABRF community and help ABRF live out its commitment to unapologetically and proactively act towards diversity, inclusion, and justice. The nomination of ABRF members is welcomed and encouraged. Nominees cannot be current members of the ABRF Executive Board or the ABRF DEI Council. Send in your nominations by this Friday, August 25th.
