    ABRF EBrief

    September 2024

    ABRF Members,

We're pleased to share this summary of the discussion from the September Executive Board meeting:

    1. ABRF Governance

The Executive Board discussed the upcoming board nominations and leadership succession. Soma noted that there would be 2-4 open board seats, depending on the decisions of incumbent Board members to seek a second term.

Executive Board members who are interested in being considered for the role of ABRF President or President-Elect for 2025-2026 were asked to contact Marie by Friday, September 20.  These Board members will be asked to prepare a vision statement and summary of their interest in the positions for the Board to review at the October 10 meeting, where the Board will select the President and President-Elect for 2025-2026.

The Executive Board agreed to continue to identify necessary updates to the ABRF By Laws to align with the new Board roles and terms.  The draft revisions will be reviewed at the next meeting.

    1. NIH RFI on Postdoctoral Training

The Board agreed to ask Sheenah Mische to draft ABRF's response to this request for information, which the Board will review prior to the October 23 submission deadline.

    1. ABRF Code of Conduct Incident Update

The Executive Board discussed the process for evaluating recent code of conduct complaints, with a focus on improving communication. The Board agreed to review the current process to identify potential improvements, including creating a standard message to be shared with the subject of any future complaints.  The Code of Conduct incident reporting process will also be shared with ABRF Chapter Organizing Committees.

    1. Research Groups/Committees Updates for Board Input

The Executive Board approved the FCRG and DSRG study proposals.   The Executive Board also agreed to develop a process to request funds for travel awards to support research groups presenting their work at related scientific meetings.

We hope this summary is helpful.  Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or suggestions for the Executive Board.

Thank you for your support for ABRF.

    Regards,

    Soma
