  • 1.  An ABRF/Cores Elevator Pitch - how would you describe ABRF and/or Core facilities in 30 seconds?

    ABRF Members,

Many of you may be familiar with the origin of the term "elevator pitch" which was used to describe the length of a message an entrepreneur would deliver to convince a potential investor to back their idea.  Sharing an elevator on a trip in a high-rise building, the entrepreneur would need to make their case before the elevator reached its destination.....

With that in mind,  what would your "elevator pitch" be for ABRF?   How would you introduce ABRF to a colleague to illustrate its value and impact?

What would your elevator pitch be for Core facilities?

Let's start a conversation here to exchange ideas and identify key topics to include.  Your suggestions will help support for ABRF messaging and communications planning.

We look forward to hearing everyone's ideas.

    Thank you.

I took a first stab at this:

Core facilities provide advanced technologies and specialized services to researchers.  Managing cores and remaining up-to-date on the best technologies requires a lot of effort.  ABRF is a great way to network with other core managers to improve our abilities to provide expertise to our clients in the most efficient ways.

Here's "a more concise version of your elevator pitch" courtesy of ChatGPT 4o:

Core facilities offer advanced technologies and specialized services to researchers. Managing these cores and staying current with the best technologies is demanding. ABRF helps core managers network and improve their expertise, ensuring efficient and top-quality service for our clients.

I gave an answer to the question of an elevator pitch for the ABRF, but describing core facilities is a little different.

    Here's my first version:

Core facilities provide valuable services to researchers.  For a (small) fee, researchers have access to expertise and expensive equipment to further their research.  Rather than have to invest large sums of money to lease or buy instruments and to hire expert staff, they can hire us on an ad hoc basis to do the work or teach them how to do it.  They can have short term access to the best specialized technologies.

Here's a tighter version by Chat GPT 4o:

Core facilities offer researchers valuable services, providing access to expertise and expensive equipment for a small fee. Instead of investing in costly instruments and staff, researchers can hire us as needed for projects or training, gaining short-term access to the best specialized technologies.
