    Hi everyone,

Starting a new thread based on our recent meeting and targeted goal of creating a one-page impact statement extolling core facilities. The target audience of this document is VP/CRs, executive leadership, and to some extent the lay community.

We recognize that there multiple, simultaneous projects being worked on that likely have similar intent, including:

    1. ABRF Strategic Plan, Task Force Goal #1: Communicate Value Impact of SRRs
    2. ABRF '25 – Impact of Federal Regulations Research Study & follow on JBT Article
    3. Cores/SRR Metrics of Impact conversations
    4. Myriad other initiatives to say how important/great/invaluable core resources are

Though this project will likely have a lot of overlap and hopefully help other efforts, we are aiming for something simple, and with a quick turnaround. Specifically, we would like a semi-final draft prior to our next CAN meeting (May 8), so that we can finalize and start dissemination.

Ken created a shared folder for us to work from, here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/10_OW8fyMRdJOAmqHr8DBsllxc37iBTdn?usp=sharing

And Ben utilized AI to draft a high-level document we can use as our start point, here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1K81xywXmz6FXtjy5_MnaOmgo1VKn14VW/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=116761429893325994648&rtpof=true&sd=true

There is a lot of text, and we would prefer to move something lighter, preferably with graphics. We all decided, without her present, that Natasha's metrics stating the impact a dollar spent in core facilities has, would be great to include if possible.

Also, we can reach out to ORIP to see if they have any high level metrics/data on the impact of putting S10 funded equipment in cores/SRRs has had vs. seeing them go to individual PIs. ORIP's S10 Fact Sheet is here: https://orip.nih.gov/sites/default/files/DCI_Factsheet_508.pdf and attached in case more Govt Data deletion happens between when I send this and you read it. @joseph also has good data regarding these costs that he offered to share towards this end.

Also also – we need a point to lead this effort. I believe that @Roxann and @Gordon offered to take lead on organization, so please feel free to take over from here, and/or start over if I missed the mark.

I will be out of the office for the next two weeks, but will do my best to join and follow the email thread as possible,.

Last, but not least, I am sending to all who have participated so far, even if only in conversation, and the CAN(-CC) distribution list. We may be missing people or including those who do not want to be involved.

Please confirm you would like to participate so Ken can create a dedicated distribution list. Feel free to rope in anyone you feel is missing but would like to participate. There was no intent to be exclusionary, I just lost track of everyone involved.

    THANK YOU!

    Andrew

I am happy to work with Gordon as lead on this effort. Thank you for covering while I was out on Thursday.

I see mention of meeting on May 8 in this message. I thought we had agreed to meet weekly until we got this done. Did that change?

    Thanks Andrew and team.

Looking forward to our next steps to move this forward. I am also happy to partner on curating the ORIP data or reaching out to our contacts at ORIP if additional data/insights are needed.

    Thanks

Thank you Andrew for this synopsis and next steps

Justine- as I am not sure Roxann's time/ desire to spearhead this, would you be willing to partner with me on this?  If so, I could find us a couple of minutes this week to connect
    thanks

    Hi all,

Here's a quick look at the data I was mentioning at the previous meeting. This is an instrument that was part of a PI's startup, but was placed into the core facility. I have the breakdown between what it would look like if it had been a single investigator instrument, vs. what it looks like in the core. I can dig up some publication data as well, and we can make this pretty, but these are what the numbers look like. Happy to add more metrics that folks think may be useful as well!

    Hi everyone,

Gordon made some suggestions in the doc and I accepted them and now it really looks bad :(

So we need to do some more work on that.

I also started playing with some slides to try and create something less text heavy.  https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1wVzc7-pDzADryL9sCgCtArnhZIhqURvufxDb-S8kAhI/edit#slide=id.g351beb97f5b_0_368

Please edit, add, adjust so we can meet our goal of finishing this by the end of our meeting on Thursday.
