    I'd feel less insulted if Director Bhattacharya and Dr. Kleinstreuer stated that the NIH had decided to cut research funding involving animal work due to dire budgetary constraints and left it at that. Claiming that mathematical models and advanced cell culture systems can recapitulate biological phenomenon elides their effort to justify the politically motived punishment of the life science community.

    I wonder how long it will take for the administration to realize the negative consequences of this policy shift and reverse course. I'd wager that a clever biomedical engineer and an economist could put their heads together to calculate it without much difficulty.
