Subject: FASEB Call for Volunteers: Gen AI Task Force

Dear FASEB Board Members, SPC Members, and Society Executive Officers –

FASEB is seeking volunteers to serve on a new Task Force on Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI). This task force will work collectively with volunteers and staff from FASEB and FASEB Member Societies to achieve two goals:

    1. Develop a report with recommendations on the relevance and impact of Gen AI and research use in the biological and biomedical community; and
    2. Identify opportunities for FASEB and member societies to use Gen AI to meet our shared missions.

The Board-approved charter for this task force is attached. Eligible volunteers include members of FASEB full member societies, early career researchers, society staff, and volunteers, and individuals working in the biological and biomedical spaces with expertise in Gen AI (specifically legal and/or technical expertise).

    Time Commitment:

Service on the task force is expected to end with recommendations presented to the Board in December, 2024
Volunteers are expected to participate in monthly 1-hour task force meetings beginning in February 2024. All task force meetings will be virtual.

Please submit the name, email address, and society/organization/institutional affiliation of any interested volunteers to Darla Henderson (dhenderson@faseb.org) or Jennifer Zeitzer (jzeitzer@faseb.org) no later than Thursday, January 25. Feel free to contact Darla or Jennifer if you have any questions or require any additional information. We would also appreciate it if you could share this announcement within your society.

    Sincerely,

Darla Henderson, PhD & Jennifer Zeitzer
