Every day FASEB offers real value to its members by providing programs and services of benefit to you and your society. Here are just a few recent initiatives that demonstrate the value of a FASEB membership and our dedication to you and your society members. Implementing Strategies to Sustain Your Society and FASEB

The FASEB Board of Directors, which is made up of representatives from all FASEB Full Member societies, continued to make direct impacts on our short- and long-term planning. The Board met in person in March and heard program updates, reviewed this year's financial information, and continued its discussion on the viability of a concept for a new organizational structure. Supporting Your Members Who Are Caregivers

FASEB recognizes that family caregiving may pose challenges to some scientists' career advancement. To address this challenge, your members were encouraged to apply for FASEB Cares (Career Advancement and Research Excellence Support) awards. This program awards $5,000 to each selected applicant to help alleviate financial burdens associated with caregiving-enabling your members to continue their scientific training. This year's awardees will be announced in June. Continuing reading

    Enabling Your Early-Career Researchers

Two opportunities supported many of your early-career researchers. FASEB appointed some of your members to the newly formed FASEB Journal Early-Career Researcher Editorial Board. This board will bring a unique perspective to the journal while helping early-career researchers gain experience in the peer review process. In addition, FASEB hosted a session at the National Postdoctoral Association annual meeting. The session provided postdocs with essential science advocacy skills.

Partnering to Advance Our Commitment to Open Science

As part of its commitment to open science, FASEB partnered with Dryad to facilitate data sharing and reuse. This partnership enables your members to deposit their research data in a secure and open access format, thereby promoting data reuse for related research studies and supporting our mission of advancing health and well-being by promoting research and education in the biological and biomedical sciences. Helping Your Members Adopt Data Management Best Practices

FASEB DataWorks! continued to facilitate a culture of data sharing and reuse for researchers. Your members were encouraged to take part in Salon discussions on adopting data sharing best practices, while Help Desk launched a series of how-to guides to help them navigate and adopt data sharing policies. In addition, seven research teams' adoption of data sharing practices were recognized with this year's DataWorks! Prize.

Enabling Your Members to Support Your Society's Science

Planning a FASEB Science Research Conference (SRC) enables your members to establish themselves as prominent figures in your research community and enhances their credibility. FASEB offered your members opportunities to shine a spotlight on your society's science by applying to organize an SRC in 2025 and organizing Catalyst Conferences on emerging biosciences topics in your society's science.

Featuring Your Members as Subject Matter Experts on News Wise

FASEB worked with society communications staff to establish a federation-wide directory of experts on News Wise, a site for science journalists. The directory features subject matter experts from several of your societies. It aims to be a resource for journalists seeking experts for a variety of topics in mainstream and scientific media. The directory is an ongoing collaboration with your society staff through the FASEB Communications and Marketing Special Interest Group.

Advocating for Sustained Funding for Federal Research Agencies

FASEB's Annual Capitol Hill Day was a success, with nearly 50 of your members who are FASEB Board and Science Policy Committee members visiting Capitol Hill to meet with lawmakers. Individual members of FASEB Full Member societies were invited to take part. The scientists/advocates met with lawmakers and their staff about the need to fund federal research agencies at FASEB's recommended funding levels in fiscal year 2025. Continue reading
