  • 1.  iLABS --> WorkDay Integration

    Good morning ABRFer's - 

    My new Institution has the basic iLABS software and utilizes WorkDay.   They do not - however - have the 2 integrated.   Has anyone out there done this and - if so - how easy/costly was it?  I welcome a conversation!

    Hi Susanna,

    I'm the Dry Lab Manager at the University of Michigan's Advanced Genomics Core. We have our own home-grown LIMS (written in Django/Python), and we integrated it with iLab using their API. It is far from perfect, and to be honest, Agilent is not at all responsive to requests for new functionality in the API (although they are good at fixing bugs when the crop up). But it does allow us to pull new requests from iLab when they are submitted by users (we have to poll the API), upload and download attachments to a request, update milestones in a request, and attach charges to the request. There is no magic -- it is a LOT of code, and we have a full time development team of about 2 FTEs to keep it running. But it is possible if you are dedicated to the cause.

    Susanna,

    At CSHL, we've used iLabs forever, and are currently switching to Workday (from Lawson). I was reassured (probably by the Workday salesperson) that integrating with iLabs wouldn't be an issue, but I don't have any details yet. But I'm also interested in anyone's experience with iLab + Workday combo.

    We switched from Lawson to Workday at Van Andel Institute about a year and a half ago.  From the accountant who supports our cores, "Integrating wasn't as much of a challenge as a time-consuming process, and knowing what needed to be updated and changed - this also included having Agilent change logic in our API for Revenue posting activity and revenue posting accounts, needing to ensure we had a way to track previous funds used on service lines, and ensuring everyone has access to all the same funds as before."
