Hello everyone,
While it is still early summer, planning for NERLSCD25 is well underway. As part of the meeting, we will again be awarding the Tom Volkert Memorial Award for Mentorship. Tom Volkert was the director of the Genomics and Technology Core at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research for over 20 years before passing away unexpectedly last year. This year, we would like to ask the community to please help nominate candidates for the award. If you have a candidate in mind, we very much welcome your nomination.
The Tom Volkert Memorial Award for Mentorship honors those whose work goes beyond their own core but reaches out to the whole shared resource community. It acknowledges those who have provided guidance or critical advice, and will have a particular emphasis on recognizing those who, like Tom, did not have a terminal degree. Our goal is to honor those who help other cores to be successful, and create an environment of collaboration instead of competition, understanding that the really important fights are to create novel therapies and save lives.
I look forward to seeing you all in New Haven October 8th-10th. We have a great agenda coming together and registration should be opening in mid-July. For our sponsors, we do still have some slots available and appreciate your support.
Thank you,
-Stuart Levine, Past President
