Within our Core we don't have people come in and use the machines, but we charge per run and one of our technicians runs the sample(s). We include the column costs in our annual budget that we have on the machines, and if we conjugate or pack an affinity column it is included in the price of that task (we're a production facility for proteins & antibodies). This way we can control things like endotoxin exposure and the cleaning schedules of our machines.

Subject: Use charges for Protein purification system
Our Shared core is in the process of getting a FPLC system and I am task with determining how we will charge for others to use this instrument. Anyone have one of these in their core? This will be a stretch for us as we primarily run flow cytometry and sorters. We have other instruments but none of them will involve the repetition or time commitments I imagine that protein purification will involve. Our options currently are time based or as a project. The other consideration is if the client supplies their own columns or if we do and multiple people run on same column.
