  • 1.  Vivarium & Core admin softwares

    Posted 01-07-2025 10:35

    Hello ABRFers,

Have any institutions cross-linked animal care/vivarium software with admin management software? I would primarily like to know how those that have overlapping services/customers handle billing, but any thoughts and guidance would be welcome.

    Thank you!

    Dear Andrew
We have linked our animal care services with iLAB and do all the billing, ordering through the platform. Happy to discuss with you.

Currently, we use tick@lab from a-tune for our animal management and research compliance and invoice through iLab.  We could bill through tick@lab, but it has some limitations that are better handled through iLab.  Billing, through iLab, also has some limitations though.  I am happy to discuss how our process has evolved and the remaining challenges.

    Andrew,

MSK wrote their own software many moons ago that handles Admin, Animal opersations such as husbandy, Animal user and IACUC.  They are constantly upgrading it as needs arise, so it is not static.  As an animal user and IACUC committee member, I would not want to go anywhere without this software!!!  From a professional and functional standpoint is at least an order of magnitude better than iLab ... at least from my side of the table.  Years back, MSK was open to licensing it out and doubt that has changed. You may very well be able to use it across U Mass and in turn leverage your economy of scale.

If you are interested in learning more ... I'll confirm MSK would make it available and if so then show you the features that are most important to you.

    Hello fellow iLABS folks -

Please include me in any discussions as my new Institution has the basic iLABS and I'd welcome how to incorporate the usage into our Vivarium.

    Thanks!

    Hi Susanna,

There is a community dedicated to ABRF/iLab Administrators and/or users called Lab Operations Management Software, where we discuss all things iLab, including APIs - please also join us there - we have many members with longtime experience using iLab.

We've not discussed Vivarium integrations specifically yet, but I'm sure the group would be able to weigh in.

    Best,

    Rochelle
