    ABRF July EBrief

    July 19, 2023

    ABRF Members,

The ABRF Executive Board met earlier this month to review current projects and plans for upcoming activities.  Here's a summary of the Board's discussion:

    • FASEB DataWorks Proposal

The Board agreed to consider providing support for a shared resource focused award for this project next year.  Marie will meet with Yvette Seger from FASEB at the upcoming MAD SSCi meeting to discuss how to structure ABRF's support.

    • ABRF Code of Conduct

The draft Code of Conduct was discussed, including modifying the prohibition on photography to be on a per-speaker opt-in basis.  ABRF will continue to obtain speakers' consent to record sessions.   Board members were asked to review the draft Code of Conduct and provide any final comments by the end of next week (7/21).

    • ABRF/CTLS Memorandum of Understanding

The Board recommended updates to the draft document; ABRF will share the draft with CTLS leaders for their input.

    • ABRF Dashboard

The draft set of elements for a quarterly ABRF dashboard were discussed, with suggestions for updates and additional information to be included.

    • ABRF Executive Board Nominations

The results of the 2023 gap analysis indicated that ABRF may want to recruit an Executive Board member from the Imaging field, as well as Board members with experience in DEI programs and activities.  These recommendations will be shared with the nominating committee.

    • Research Group/Committee Updates

The Flow Cytometry Research Group requested an additional $5000 to support extending activities for its ongoing study.   The Board approved the request without the need for additional peer review of the continuing project.

Several Research Groups (Light Microscopy; Proteomics; Genomics; MMRG; Proteomics Standards) are in the process of succession planning and a new leadership search.  The Executive Board liaisons for these groups will convene a meeting of the Research Group members to try to identify new Chairs/Co-Chairs or discuss possible consolidation.

The Committee on Core Rigor and Reproducibility (CCoRRe) has been approached by AACR for assistance to review the methods section of select AACR papers.  This may be an opportunity for ABRF Emeritus members to contribute.

    • ABRF Award Criteria

In response to a request from the ABRF Award Committee, the Board agreed to modify the description of the ABRF to:
The ABRF Award recognizes those pioneers responsible for developing powerful new tools that form the foundation upon which the modern biomolecular research enterprise thrives, or who have significantly improved/advanced the impact of Shared Research Facilities.
    • Annual AMR Client Satisfaction Survey Results

The results of the annual AMR satisfaction survey were reviewed, which were generally positive, with select concerns about AMR's performance in 2022.  Board members will be invited to share more details about their concerns.  AMR will be asked to prepare a similar survey to collect feedback from Chapter leaders.

We hope that this summary is helpful.  Feel free to contact me via email or through ABRF Communities if you have any questions about these notes or suggestions for the Executive Board.

Thank you for your continued participation in ABRF.

    Best,

    Marie
