Education Projects (R25)
January 2025
ABRF Members,
ABRF is exploring the possibility of submitting an NIH R25 grant application to support the development of training programs for Core personnel. (Assuming that the pause in federal funding will end before the grant application is due.)
The purpose of the R25 grant program is to develop and/or implement a program related to a category in one or more of the areas of education, information, training, technical assistance, coordination, or evaluation.
R25 awards are for up to three years and $250,000. Indirect costs are set at 8% of total direct costs.
The list of (96) Fiscal Year 2025 projects is available here.
Among the participating agencies, support from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS), Modules for Enhancing Biomedical Research Workforce Training, appears to best match ABRF's resources and expertise.
Creating this type of education content is a key element of the emerging ABRF Strategy for 2025-2028. It will be an essential step toward expanding ABRF's education resources and establishing ABRF as a capable grant partner with NIH.
The annual due dates for new R25 applications are January 25, May 25, and September 25.
ABRF is seeking volunteers to form a working group to collaborate with the Fiscal Sustainability Committee to develop this grant application. This includes identifying members to serve as the Project's Principal Investigator or Program Director. Ideally, the Working Group will include 6-8 members with diverse backgrounds and roles in Core facilities, including some experience writing and managing NIH grants.
If you want to participate in this new project, please get in touch with Rich Cole by 02.10.2025.
Please share this with any other ABRF member who may be willing to help.
Thank you.
