  • 1.  Definition of Critical Equipment

    Posted 09-08-2022 15:00

    Hi Everyone -

We are working on a campus-wide project to better protect valuable research materials. One of the areas is power/power outages/backup systems, etc.

A key component of developing an approach is the definition of "critical research equipment."

Since everyone believes that their equipment, materials, specimens, are critical, I'm interested in learning how your organization defines critical equipment?

    Thanks very much.

For the most part, we define critical equipment as anything that is storing irreplaceable samples or specimens. In practice, that means -80 and LN2 freezers, and anything that involves live animals, where an animal could be injured if a power outage happened. We don't put most analytical equipment (ie cytometers, mass specs, etc) on backup power.
