    ABRF Members,

The ABRF Community is saddened by the passing of Andrew Alpert, a leader in the separation science field and protein mass spectrometry.  An early corporate partner with ABRF, Andy was a generous colleague and friend to many ABRF members.

Additional information on how to share your memories is included below.

    WEEKLY UPDATE

    ???

    Welcome back.

For those of you who have not yet heard, PolyLC Founder Andrew Alpert sadly passed away on May 29, 2023. We'd like to spend a few moments remembering Andy and his impact.

Throughout an incredibly successful career, Andy made significant contributions to the separation science field, including the introduction of hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC). We spoke with Andy back in 2018 to share his "lessons learned," which included not automatically discounting outliers, the profound impact a good mentor can have, the factors behind the success of a new technology, and how to prioritize different experiments. You can read Andy's article here.

Many colleagues have expressed their condolences on Twitter. Ben Garcia, biochemistry and molecular biophysics professor, said, "Very sad news. Andy was a tremendous scientist, entrepreneur and friend to all mass spectrometrists."

Mass spectrometrist John R. Yates III also shared his sympathies, "Andy helped us a lot over the years and this is a big loss to the field of separations"

Here at The Analytical Scientist, we send our deepest condolences to Andy's family,  friends, and colleagues.

If you'd like to share your memories of Andy with the rest of the community, please don't hesitate to get in touch: edit@theanalyticalscientist.com
