ABRF Members,
FASEB seeks mentors for its inaugural cohort of FASEB Fellows for the Future. Funded by a National Science Foundation Leading Culture Change Through Professional Societies of Biology (BIO-LEAPS) grant, FASEB Fellows for the Future is a cohort-based program to help early-career researchers navigate and overcome barriers to society participation and leadership through mentorship.
Why Become a FASEB Fellow for the Future Mentor?
Participating as a mentor offers several key benefits:
- Foster Inclusivity Within Your Society: FASEB Fellows for the Future builds on prior Federation efforts that seek to increase engagement of early-career researchers in scientific societies;
- Support the Next Generation of Leaders in Your Field: FASEB Fellows for the Future are early-career researchers representing many facets of diversity who have demonstrated interest in society governance and leadership; and
- Give Back to the Research Community: Help shape the future of your research field by empowering Fellows to overcome barriers and establish a strong research network.
Mentor Role:
FASEB Fellows for the Future will be paired with a mentor who is a member of the same FASEB Full Member society. Ideal mentors are actively engaged with society activities and have current or recent experience within society governance and leadership. Specific commitments include:
- Participating in virtual mentoring meetings with their paired Fellow six times in a calendar year, with guided discussion topics provided by FASEB;
- Providing in-person mentoring and networking support during the society's annual conference; and
- Attending and actively participating in the two-day Fellows for the Future retreat at FASEB's headquarters in Rockville, Maryland (expenses supported by grant).
Mentors must be based in the U.S. and have experience in society leadership, mentoring, and fostering diversity and inclusion in science. Visit Fellows for the Future to learn more about eligibility requirements. Click here to apply!
Sincerely,
ABRF Executive Board
