Recommended Equipment Resellers?

  • 1.  Recommended Equipment Resellers?

    Hi ABRFers,

We are looking for recommendations regarding scientific equipment resellers as we have some equipment we'd like to part ways with.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Best wishes,

    Julie

I would look locally for best return.

Be aware they will offer very little.

I had a Zeiss 710 NLO 2photon with Coherent laser and Becker and Hickl FLIM back in 2014/15 and a company offered $40,000 for the whole thing!!! (note the Coherent laser was worth $150,000 by itself)

We have had success with LABEX of MA - Reconditioned vivarium equipment, used lab research cages and solutions before! They typically lean more into used vivarium equipment, but will take other basic lab equipment as well.

I am familiar with this company an old classmate of mine launched many years ago. I can not comment on experience with them but it may be an option to look into https://rheaply.com/about-us/

One of my former colleagues has used GMI to purchase used instruments in the past and they also purchased used equipment:

We've had good luck with Mercedes Scientific for histology equipment.

    Hi Julie,

Depending on what you are looking to get rid of - we have had recent success with Certified Genetool. They purchased an old flow cytometer from us and did all the heavy lifting by sending a tech to disassemble, package, and remove it from our core. The purchase price was fair as well considering the age of the instrument.

    Hope this helps.

We've also had a good experience purchasing from Certified Gene Tool. I have sold instruments to several vendors over the years, and tend to shop around to see who can offer the most beneficial price and terms.

    Hi Julie,

It kind of depends on how much and what types of equipment you intend to resell, and of course, there's the "internal red tape" that you also may have to deal with.

I have bought and sold equipment through "ALT" or "Americanlaboratorytrading.com".  When I sold to them, they wanted an equipment list (make/model) as well as one photo of each item.  They didn't ask many questions about condition of equipment.  They then put together a quote.  After the paperwork is completed, they will arrange for a shipping company to show up, box up the items, and ship everything.

There are some caveats.  They won't come for a single piece of equipment.  And there is a minimum value (maybe $5,000) of equipment to make it worth their while.

We didn't get the "best price" for our equipment, but we were looking to get rid of equipment that was taking up lab space and didn't want to toss it into a dumpster.  I would certainly work with them again.  The main issue is that I need enough equipment to sell.  I know there are other, similar companies out there, too.

    I hope that helps.

    Hi Julie,

We have used Okon in the past. https://www.okonrecycling.com/

They specialize in recycling instruments with magnets and rare metals. They don't offer top dollars but good for the earth instead of instruments going to dumpsters.

    Thanks

    Hi Julie,

We've had good luck with Bridgetronic and CAE.

I have compiled a list of equipment resellers and contacts I'd be happy to share with you.
