On August 13, the Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Science Advisory Committee (SCAC) SC User Facilities Subcommittee announced two opportunities for the scientific community to help shape the future DOE Major Facilities Roadmap through participation in an upcoming town hall. The town hall builds on updates provided by the subcommittee during the July SCAC meeting.
The Subcommittee is reviewing a summary of proposed facilities and infrastructure upgrades to identify gaps and prioritize investments that will best support U.S. scientific needs over the next decade. The Subcommittee is seeking input from universities and scientific user communities on key considerations for future investments, potential gaps in the list of proposed facilities, and alignment of proposed projects with the Genesis Mission and other Administration priorities. Input may also help inform the direction of the planned Quantum Computing User Facility, announced by DOE in June as part of the Quantum Genesis Initiative.
To support broad community engagement, the SCAC will host a virtual town hall meeting on September 17, 2026. Community members may participate through either of the following opportunities:
- Speaking Request: Community members interested in providing up to 5 minutes of remarks during the town hall may submit a brief abstract for consideration by the subcommittee. Request Deadline: September 10.
- Written Input: Community members may submit written comments of up to 2500 words for consideration by the Subcommittee. Submission Deadline: September 15.
For universities, research organizations, and industry partners that use or support DOE user facilities, engagement in the Town Hall provides an opportunity to highlight scientific and technical needs, and help inform long-term federal infrastructure priorities.
